Johnny + LouLou – artists, lovers, musicians, and my neighbors and friends. I met Johnny two years ago when I moved into my neighborhood in LA. I heard him and some of his friends playing music from my kitchen window, and wandered over to see if they needed someone to play keys in their makeshift band. We all ended up talking for hours and I left with a cool trench coat he painted from his garage sale. It’s one of my favorites still. I asked to look inside his very eclectic apartment [because I’m nosy] and immediately knew I had to do a photoshoot of him and his partner, LouLou there. It took us over a year to schedule it, but I couldn’t be happier with how the film turned out. We spent 3 hours talking, playing music and documenting this moment in their lives. This is why I pursued photojournalism – connecting with people, learning about and from their experiences never gets old. It’s work that feels important. It’s work that fuels me so deeply. It’s work I’m making time to rediscover and dive into because at my core, this is what I love. People.
